Today's post is a special one for me, as it reflects one of the highlight moments of my life: my university exchange in Tokyo. For those who don't know, I majored in Japanese at university, and it had always been a dream of mine to live in Japan during my early twenties to experience the culture and language I had been learning. As a fashion enthusiast, I was especially excited to live in Tokyo, one of the world's leading fashion capitals. I couldn't wait to explore the city's vibrant fashion scene and soak up all the inspiration.

When I think of fashion in Tokyo, I immediately see myself in the hustle and bustle of Shibuya’s intersection. A meeting point for all fashion forward people, the scramble crossing is a catwalk in itself (a free fashion parade, if you will), featuring all styles, all colours, from day to night - the moment the pedestrian lights turn green. I couldn't imagine doing my first Tokyo blogpost anywhere else but here.

As a proud 90’s baby, I stepped out in my denim overalls, a playful and easy to wear number that coordinates well with such a youthful and animated district.

To keep the look more up to date, I style myself with this on-trend pair of red tinted shades. The red-tinted lenses gives a pleasant distortion to reality, and in my case, made shibuya city look like a scene from some sci-fi futuristic movie.

Colour coding has always been my thing, so it was obvious that I’d match the glasses with these bold red boots, a statement pair that allowed me to confidently strut that crossing.

Kawaii Space Buns (also known as odango in Japanese), is a signature look worn by Japanese street-style fashionistas and also appears frequently in mangas and anime (Sailor moon anyone?) I couldn't resist tempting this cute updo.

Last but definitely not least, I rock my new flashy yellow AKM headphones to cancel out the city sounds and tune into my own world.

I guess that’s the charm of Tokyo. You can be your own world; the person you pass by can be in their own world. It’s the kind of place where everyone can be anyone, you can escape or you can immerse; and standing in the heart of it all, here in Shibuya Crossing, is always exciting.

Oh look, the lights turned green! Sayoonara!
